So you have survived Christmas Day and now it’s Boxing Day, “leftover food day” designated to tucking into the leftover Christmas ham or turkey etc. Who doesn’t love a turkey or ham toastie if you are up to it!
Know your leftover food’s storage history. Christmas is a peak time for food poisoning because our weather is hot and fridges have been overloaded with festive food. There are countless recipes on how to transform leftover turkey, surplus ham and anything else still sitting in the fridge after the Christmas rush into a whole range of delicious dishes.
No one wants to let festive food go to waste, but snacking on leftovers that we haven’t stored properly or left unrefrigerated for too long can give you food poisoning from harmful bacteria. If you have any doubts whatsoever about how food has been prepared or stored, bin it. Just because food looks or smells OK doesn’t mean that it’s safe to eat. Don’t take the risk.
