Scanxiety grips you, that dreaded anxiety when it is scan time again and the wait for results. It never goes away.
Even in life after cancer treatment it doesn’t go away. It should get easier but when checkup scan day nears you become tight chested, there can be tears and you are a bundle of anxiety and stress. You are irritable, emotional and generally a crabby person. This mostly lasts until you get your results.
It is worse for cancer patients like Shelli who just want to hear the words “stable” and could never hear the words all clear.
When scan time is near it may be a good idea to warn those around you so they can understand your feelings and actions particularly if you snap for no particular reason.
It’s best to plan your scans and medical team appointment to lessen the waiting period for results.
