For many Christmas in a happy occasion spending time with loved ones but for others it is often an emotional time even when you don’t have cancer. Christmas is a reminder of loved ones they have lost or are separated from.
If you have cancer, it can be a reminder that you aren’t as healthy as you once were or would like to be. You might feel a range of emotions thinking about what you have been through and what may happen in the future.
Christmas is not the same without Shelli, the heart and soul of my Christmas and loved present giving. When Shelli was unwell and couldn’t hit the shops we spent hours together shopping online. Present wrapping was not my favourite but Shelli would set the dining room table up with wrapping paper, gift cards, tags and embellishments and go for it wrapping all of the gifts. She also knew just what to write on cards. My presents don’t quite look the same this year!
This past fortnight I have been through a range of emotions, another year on and I thought it would get easier but as others who have lost a loved one will understand, it doesn’t. There is no right or wrong way to feel as everyone reacts and copes in their own way.
Family, friends and cancer patients most likely have similar feelings so maybe chatting about it with a friend may help. Hopefully the day will allow you to forget all about cancer for a while and enjoy yourself.
