Motivating or upsetting?

As a cancer patient you hear many “motivating” quotes that can be upsetting. You can be called a superwoman or superman or told to” be brave,” “attitude is everything” and to “kick cancer’s butt.”

Words such as ‘battling’ or ‘survivor’ are often used to describe Cancer. Some people find certain words motivating, while others find them upsetting. It’s worse when people who won’t say the word cancer but instead call it “the big C’. Another statement is “you don’t look sick!”

Shelli used to  shrug a lot of comments off because she believed it is better to say something to someone living with cancer than to not say anything at all.

What aggravated Shelli the most were those who questioned her treatments.“I read about a treatment…” or “you need to drink…” or question her medical team.

Don’t fear saying the wrong thing, because the patient would you prefer you chat instead of going missing from the friendship.
