Your dentist is important in your cancer treatment. Your mouth should be as healthy as possible before chemotherapy starts to help in reducing side effects and prevent more serious mouth problems. Have your teeth cleaned prior to chemotherapy. Not all mouth problems can be avoided but the fewer side effects the better!
Chemotherapy can wreck havoc on your mouth so most dental work should be avoided after treatment has commenced. This is a precaution to avoid a bacterial bloodstream infection. Emergency treatment is possible if your immune system is strong enough.
Start good oral care habits at home before treatment begins. We include Oral 7 mouthwash and toothpaste and a very soft toothbrush for maintaining dental care during chemotherapy. It won’t irritate sensitive gums or mouth sores. (another common side effect).
