Hope versus reality

As a patient you face the reality of having cancer to the lifeline of hope. Don’t let anyone ever take hope away from you. Hope can be a positive outcome to your scans. With metastatic cancer Shelli’s hope was always hearing the word, ‘stable’.

Creating a sense of hope in your life can help you face cancer with strength and confidence. The best gift you can give yourself is to surround yourself with family and friends who make you feel good, those who make you laugh but let you cry freely during that low period. Take each day as it comes and live as well as you can. If it’s a bad day listen to your body and rest but if you are feeling okay go out even if it is just a walk in the garden and enjoy some sunshine.

Of course, your medical team and palliative care must tell their patients the difficult truth but the specific words should be delivered with hope or encouragement to keep fighting.
