How awesome has the weather been this week! I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the sunshine and get yourself some Vitamin D. But don’t be fooled. We have been spoilt with warmer weather this Summer, some would say it’s been too hot.
BUT according to the news the cold weather is coming.
On Saturday, Melbourne will drop to just 9C, while even during the day the city will be lucky to get to a maximum of 15C — that’s a full 9 degrees below the March average. News.com.au
For a cancer patient our colder weather can be hard. You may need to pack away the sun hat and bring out the warm beanies. With no hair you have no “insulation” on your head so cover up because much of your body heat will be lost through the head and shoulders. Make sure you keep your hands and feet warm by covering up in socks and gloves too.
Peripheral neuropathy causing numbness in the extremities can be a side effect of some cancer treatments. Cold weather can intensify the pain that patients with peripheral neuropathy can experience.
Some chemotherapy treatments and radiation therapy can affect your bones so extra care needs to be taken not to slip on wet ground risking breaking bones.
