Happy Neighbour Day

In 2019, Neighbour Day falls on Sunday 31 March this year. Neighbour Day aims to fostering strong personal connections that last the whole year round. The annual theme for Neighbour Day 2019 is Loneliness: What neighbours can do to create connections.

Friendly neighbours can be so important to cancer patients, especially helping out with simple chores. Whether it is dropping by for a cuppa and chat, grabbing them lunch if they are not up to it or just taking out their bins when you take out your own. Offer to shop, help unpack their car or realise their garden could do with a little tidying. Let them know that you are there to help if there is an emergency situation.

When Shelli was very ill in hospital we came home to the lawns mowed and the occasional cooked meal from our neighbours. They had spotted us coming home late from hospital visit with take-a-way. From time to time carers may need some extra help and support and our neighbour did just that!

You never know what’s happening in someone’s life and a small gesture can lighten the load. Do a chore and help make someone else’s life a little easier.
