Cancer is often said to be a roller coaster of emotions. Depression, anxiety, and fear can strike at any time leaving you feeling wiped out and drained. There may be the need to scream, yell, hold on tightly, and at times breathe out and laugh as you travel the ups and downs.
Changes in body image can affect self-esteem, pain, nausea, or fatigue from treatment and fear of death and the unknown can all combine to cause emotional distress. It’s hard but important to try and manage your stress, which can weaken your immune system and lower your defence when fighting metastatic cancer.
Keep a record in your Kit journal of your stress levels to find suspicious symptoms like days before treatment, results of scans (scanxiety) etc, going to hospital, cancer comes back…..
If your distress reaches moderate to severe levels discuss with your medical team as you may need extra help.
