1 in 13 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer in their lifetime. 15,604 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year. Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is an annual initiative of Bowel Cancer Australia running throughout the month of June (1-30) to raise public awareness of Australia’s second deadliest cancer.
While the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn’t discriminate, affecting men and women, young and old. Bowel Cancer Awareness Month has a positive message – saving lives through early detection – as bowel cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early.
