22-28 July 2019 is National Pain Week. Living with chronic pain can be a very lonely thing. You may be feeling quite isolated and ‘over it’and think that no one really understands your experience.
People with cancer may have pain caused by the cancer itself or by cancer treatment. Only you can describe your pain – it may be steady, burning, throbbing, stabbing, aching or pinching. Health professionals, family members and carers will rely on your description to work out the level of pain and its impact on your life. For information re cancer pain check out www.cancervic.org.au.
It is crucial that people living with chronic pain, stay connected. Chronic Pain Australia runs a free 24/7 forum for people living with chronic pain. Here people in pain are welcomed with values of compassion, non-judgement and understanding.
Always consult your medical team and keep them informed about your cancer pain.
