There could be some pretty gross things growing in your handbag. It may be contaminated with heaps of bacteria. Your handbag can become a cesspit for bacteria from any of the surfaces it touches -restaurant floors, public transport, countertops, even bathroom floors. Our hands touch the outside and then all the things you have inside of your handbag. If you take your bag to a bathroom NEVER put it on the floor but hang it on the door.
One rule is not to throw sneakers, food, or used tissues in your handbag. These items are moistened can create the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. One solution is to place them each in a separate a sealed container before placing them in your bag.
Remember to clean your bag inside and out, and everything you carry in it. Disinfecting wipes are great but make sure they don’t contain bleach or alcohol and check you can use them on leather. Also check washing instructions for bags made from cloth. Pay special attention to the parts that you touch the most, like handles and straps. Research has found that the dirtiest part of the bag is the handle and that one in five handbags contained enough bacteria to be considered a health risk. YUCK!
