Friday, August 16 is Rollercoaster Day, a day to celebrate riding a rollercoaster for thrill seekers.
Cancer patients often describe their life as a rollercoaster of emotions, not the thrill seeker kind. Depression, anxiety, and fear can strike at any time leaving you feeling wiped out and drained. Today, if you are feeling like you are on this rollercoaster ride, maybe let out a scream, yell, hold on tightly, breathe out and laugh as you travel the ups and downs.
It’s hard but important to try and manage your stress, which can weaken your immune system and lower your defence when fighting metastatic cancer. Keep a record in your Kit for Cancer journal of your stress levels to find suspicious symptoms like days before treatment, results of scans (scanxiety) etc, going to hospital, cancer comes back…..
If your distress reaches moderate to severe levels discuss with your medical team as you may need extra help.
