10/10 World Mental Health Day

October 10 is World Mental Health Day. At home, at work, with family and friends, or in the wider community, we can all do something to help reduce stigma around mental illness and make way for more people to seek the help and support. 1 in 5 Australians are affected by mental illness yet many don’t seek help because of the stigma.

Cancer affects your emotional health having a huge impact on most patients, families, and caregivers. Feelings of depression, anxiety, and fear are very common. Symptoms of stress include physical signs, such as trouble sleeping, headaches, high blood pressure, changes in appetite and heart palpitations. Emotional signs may include feeling tired, unwell, overly sensitive or physically and emotionally drained. If stress is ongoing, it could lead to exhaustion and burnout.

Check with your medical team if feeling stressed and for carers, seek some extra help.
