Thanks to our Carers

We care about our carers, National Carers Week, 13- 19 October, 2019. It’s a week about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our nation. Anyone at any time can become a carer. Australia’s 2.7 million carers make an enormous contribution to our communities, with their caring roles being valued at $60.3 billion annually – more than $1 billion per week.

Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members & friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, or who are frail aged. They may be family, a neighbour or a friend providing support and direct care maybe for a few hours a week or all day every day. Carers become stressed out trying to juggle their lives and looking after the patient and their responsibilities too.

Don’t forget to ask how they are too!  Offering occasionally to help out can just mean sitting with the patient while the carer steps out for a cup of coffee or shopping.
