World Osteoporosis Day

October 20, 2019 is World Osteoporosis Day (WOD), marking a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.

Osteoporosis Australia Patron Helen Dalley is encouraging everyone to help spread the word about osteoporosis prevention.
“This year we are stressing the consequences of poor bone health – broken bones, and how they become so life-limiting! In Australia there are over 165,000 fractures each year, which have an enormous and debilitating (means a big) impact not only on the patient but on their family too.

It is important that people who have undergone cancer therapy are aware of their increased risk of osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about the action that can be taken to help prevent osteoporosis and related fractures. Early diagnosis through a bone density test may be required.
