People are busy Christmas shopping, parties and meeting up with friends. There’s so much going on around us but you’re tired and fatigued, sick of treatment and would love to join in all the fun. It’s tempting to sulk in discouragement. But don’t let that happen.
The joy you get from laughing with friends or playing with your dog may give you a boost. Laughter also works as an effective distraction from things that cause anxiety and anger. According to the National Cancer Institute US, laughter keeps the stress hormones under control and aids immune system agents such as the NK cells, lymphocytes, B cells, and T cells function optimally. A good laugh can help you breathe deeply sustaining deep exhales and exhale more fully. Laughter stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increase the endorphins that are released by your brain.
It’s not easy to laugh when it comes to coping with cancer but life is too short and too precious. Instead, laugh out loud and enjoy whenever you have the energy to join in.
