Don’t Display Your Medication

How often do you read “makes a great coffee table item”! A coffee table can be a place to stash the remote, to rest your drink, a footrest!!, display a collection of books, a plant, flowers or candle. Your medication is NOT a coffee table item.

To children, pills may look like sweets. Take care and not have your medication on display, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines and vitamins.  Avoid leaving on your coffee or bedside table. Products such as creams or eye drops are also medications and need to be stored safely.

Close medicine caps tightly after every use. Remember, child-resistant caps for medicine bottles does not mean child-proof and some children will still be able to get into medicine given enough time and persistence.

Even if you are tempted to keep it handy, put medicine out of reach after every use. If you need a reminder, set an alarm on your watch or cell phone, or write yourself a note.
