Some cancer patients suffer constipation but for others their treatment often involves the opposite, diarrhoea. This can result in a sore and tender butt. At the first sign of diarrhoea, protect yourself. We’ve added a tube of ThankYou nappy balm, (we call it butt cream) containing vitamin-E, calendula and zinc together to help create a thick, protective barrier on your butt. Wash your hands with soap and water and keep a stock of hand sanitiser close by. We’ve popped a pocket size Thank you hand sanitiser in Kit for Cancer case to carry it around in your bag at all times.
We also include wotnot wipes, for those messy occasions. Please dispose of properly and don’t flush wet wipes down the toilet. We don’t want to clog up the sewerage system.
Severe diarrhoea can make you lose a lot of fluid and become dehydrated. Drinking clear fluids is also essential for replacing fluid lost through bowel movements, Severe diarrhea can cause dehydration and imbalance of electrolytes. We have added Hydralyte to Kit to help restore vital electrolytes if you are dehydrated.
Inform your medical team as soon as you have the first signs of diarrhoea. They can advise you on how to manage your situation and recommend medication.
