Asthma and hay fever sufferers have faced challenges with the COVID-19 outbreak. Now add to that Spring and the risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma that can cause breathing difficulties and can, in some cases, be life threatening. Rye grass is mostly to blame for flare-ups in thunderstorm asthma. You can check the pollen count in your State at www.pollenforecast.com.au.
Cancer patients can often experience anxiety causing shortness of breath or making the situation worse. Some chemotherapy drugs or radiation therapy to the lungs may also cause this too.
Chat with your medical team if you begin having trouble controlling your breathing, especially with the added asthma or allergy symptoms. Cancer patients need to be prepared with medication to combat the onset of Spring allergies. If you cannot manage your breathing or notice a worsening or extreme shortness of breath alert your medical team or hospital immediately.
We do add a pocket size tissues to our Kit for Cancer case to catch those sneezes, just in case they’re needed!
