There has not been a lot to laugh about in 2020. With Covid-19 restrictions being eased people are now busy Christmas shopping and meeting up with friends. Cancer patients can be very tired and fatigued, sick of treatment so it’s not easy to laugh and join in the fun. When life gets tough a good laugh is the quickest way to de-stress.
Laughing is an effective distraction from things that cause anxiety and anger so choose your favourite comedy or movie and allow yourself to laugh out loud. The joy you get from laughing with friends or playing with your dog may give you a boost. A good laugh can help you breathe deeply sustaining deep exhales and exhale more fully. Laughter stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increase the endorphins that are released by your brain.
It’s not easy to laugh when it comes to coping with cancer but life is too short and too precious. Surround yourself with people who make you happy, laugh out loud and enjoy whenever you have the energy to join in.
Remember to be Covid safe.
