To cover or not!

It’s important to protect your skin from even small cuts, grazing or scrapings. Your body will not be able to fight germs off as well as it normally would while you are going through chemotherapyThese are easy ways for germs to enter your body causing infection. Keep cuts and scrapes clean, dry and covered.

BUT don’t just cover and forget. Leaving coverings on for too long can slow the healing process and encourage infection. Continued care to the wound is also important. Keep area clean and apply new bandaging.  Change immediately if it gets dirty or wet.

We can never stress enough the importance of clean hands before handling the affected area. Don’t be afraid to ask the person attending to the wound to wash their hands.  We have included a Thankyou hand sanitiser in our Kit for Cancer case for an extra hand cleanliness.

Check with your medical team if the skin around the area becomes red, warm, swollen, or increasingly painful or begins to drain yellow or greenish fluid (pus).
