Hydrate before, during and after Chemo

Vomiting and diarrhoea are common side effects of cancer and treatment leading to dehydration. To function correctly, your body needs both water and electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium and chloride). Water helps to maintain body temperature, digest food and lubricate tissues and joints. Electrolytes help to retain fluid, and maintain good nerve and muscle function.

On the days before chemotherapy treatment make sure you are well hydrated. You should have your water bottle with you at all times before, during and after chemo. Staying hydrated helps to flush chemo chemicals out of your kidneys  – the organs that control your bodily waste.

We have included Hydralyte in our Kit for Cancer case as it’s the best thing to ensure that you replenish all of your electrolytes back into your body. Hydralyte is scientifically formulated to contain the correct balance of glucose and electrolytes for rapid rehydration. Available in many yummy flavours.

Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. Consult your medical team if you are unable to eat due to ongoing nausea or diarrhoea you are unable to take your medications or if there is persistent vomiting that cannot be controlled with anti nausea drugs.
